Backpack Love

“For I was hungry and you gave me food…” Matthew 25:35

What we do

We partner with local schools and counselors who have expressed a need for food for students and their families. Each week, our volunteers fill bags full of easy-to-prepare food to feed a family of five over the weekend. Teams of volunteers meet every Friday morning to pick up bags and deliver them to the schools.

Every Friday, a family receives 2 dinners, 2 lunches, 2 breakfasts, and snacks. $30 feeds a family of 5 each weekend for a month.

Many families in our community are faced with the frightening uncertainty of not knowing where they will find their next meal. 1 in 5 Georgia children live in food-insecure households, relying on their school’s breakfast and lunch for their most nutritious meals of the day. In some cases, these are their only meals each day. Every Friday afternoon, many of these children go home to empty cupboards for two days until they return to school Monday morning.

Fueled by a passion to ensure children don’t go hungry over the weekends, our Backpack Love program reaches kids and their families where they are and when they need it most. Our hope is to show the love of Jesus Christ through distributing enough food each weekend to nourish every hungry family.

Get involved

Pack or deliver bags

Volunteers are always needed. Contact us for more information about how to pack or deliver bags, whether you are looking for a one-time event or an ongoing commitment.

Sponsor a birthday

Many of our families that receive backpacks are unable to provide a birthday party for their children. For $50, you can gift a birthday party, which includes cake, party decorations, juice boxes, plates, napkins, candles, and a small, age-appropriate gift.

Sponsor a child

All financial gifts help us purchase food. You can sponsor a child for $30 a month, which provides them with a bag full of food every weekend. For $400, you can bless a family with food every weekend for an entire school year.
